For any given dog, if we have more than one home that is appropriate, we adopt to the one that has been on our waiting list the longest, so there is an advantage to completing your application now even if that special dog isn't listed at this moment. We'll post photos of these dogs as we receive them, so check back often, or drop us an email so we know you are interested!

Josie![]() |
12 yrs |
F |
Josie is a 12 yr old spayed female petitte princess who's owner recently passed away causing her to end up in a shelter. She did not do well in the shelter environment/kennels, but was wonderful as an 'office' mascot. The ladies at the shelter felt sorry for her and she managed to crawl right into their hearts with her sweetness. Josie is in great shape except for being a few pounds overweight. She does have a little arthritis in her back knees but it doesn't seem to bother her very much. Losing a little weight will help the knees to never bother her. Josie's bloodwork came back w/a couple liver values a little bit off but not the biggie that indicates serious liver problems, other than that all is perfect and the vet thought she might have just gotten into something. Josie is a sweetheart with some spunk to her; yes she does like her naps but isn't a complete sleepy head and is definitely a world class beggar. She is house trained as well as non destructive and the only reason we're listing her as not good with small children is her age. At 12 yrs old the last thing she needs is her naps interupted! If you have room in your heart and home for an old fart who likes to beg and cuddle please contact us |

Happy |
6 yrs | F |
Happy came into rescue after spending her first 5-1/2 years living in a rabbit hutch, producing puppies for an Amish puppy mill. She will be 6 yrs old on 4/20 but behaves more like a 6 month old. For instance, she will seek out shoes to chew and is still working on house training, but has come a long way on both issues since coming into rescue; she still has the occasional accident still, but that is at least partly due to her foster humans not catching her signals. She still wants to chew, but will leave the shoes alone if she has something of her own to chew on. She knows no obedience commands and when she first came into foster, it was the luck of the draw on whether or not she'd come when called. She wanted to, she just wasn't sure if she should/if she could trust the humans. She now comes to her foster mom every time, but isn't quite as good with her foster dad. (To be fair, though, he hasn't put the time in with her working on this...nor has he always had cheese to reward her the way her foster mom has!!) .In her previous environment, she had very little human contact and what she did have wasn't great, as she is hand shy, timid and can be fearful of mundane things. Since being in foster care, she has been learning manners and more importantly, she is learning that being petted by human hands isn't a bad thing. Amazingly she is a sweet, sweet girl and really wants to trust; it's just going to take some time for her to be able to fully come out of her shell and she may not ever be able to fully give herself over to trust. Because of her history and personality, there are some specific requirements for her adoption --

Thelma & Louise |
8 yrs |
F |
Thelma and Louise are 8 yrs old and were used for breeding their whole lives and not much else. They came into rescue because they escaped from their previous owners and those people could not or would not pay the fine to get them back. As of today (4/18/08), we've had them for about 2 weeks now and in that time they've made great strides in learning to trust humans but they still have a long way to go. They like to play with toys and absolutely love other dogs. They've also become very affectionate towards their new keepers. Amazingly, considering their previous existenc, they are both in great health. They are utd on shots and have now been spayed. Their initial bloodwork showed a couple small glitches, but those have been attributed to the fact that they had a bad intestinal parasite infestation. These girls will need a home with a lot of patience and the willingness to earn their trust but it will be worth the extra effort for whoever that home is. They're learning house training but aren't there yet. We are requiring a 'real' fence for these ladies as it will make life easier for all. |
